SNOW CHILDREN A collection of some of Russia's finest jazz butchers! Here is a review of some of their work: Kzysztof Popek - flutes Bronislav Duzhy - trombone Alexander Koretzky - soprano, tenor saxophone Dmitri Erilov - piano Askhat Sayfullin - bass, vargan Peter Rzhanitzyn - electric bass Sergey Belichenko - drums, percusssion (Rec.March,14,1989) Avant-guard - it is not game. It is a way of thinking and following various
cultural scandals. International Siberian-polonaise avant-guard is represented
at this disc. It is a very interesting experiment, interpreting rather boldly
new possibilities of sound producing in a non-traditional jazz. (E-eh! Cleverly
said!) It is stupid and senseless to comment this disc, much more useful and
interesting to listen to it. And one can make several serious conclusions in one
time. First-modern jazz is alive, healthy and places in Siberia. Second - it is
not easy to listen to jazz and it demands a serious previous preparation. And,
finally, last conclusion - it's a high-classic music, worth to be listened to,
even if all that you know about jazz is that one plays the bent pipes there. Max Shabalin
